Jane Eyre

Title: Jane Eyre
Author: Charlotte Brontë
Genre: Fiction/ Classic Literature / Romance
Why I picked this book: It was an assignment in 11th grade English that became one of my favorite books of all time. Definitely in my top ten.

Back of the Book:
“With her 1847 novel, Jane Eyre, Charlotte Brontë created one of the most unforgettable heroines of all time. Jane Eyre is an orphan, penniless and plain, but full of courage and spirit. She has endured incredible hardship to sucre her humble status as a governess in the household of her brooding employer, Mr. Rochester. Jane’s sharp wit and defiant nature meet with Rochester’s sardonic temperament. The two become enmeshed in a deep, intense bond. But Rochester has a terrible secret – a remnant from his past that could threatan any hope of happiness with hsi only love.

An unconventional love story that revolutionized the scope of romantic fiction, Jane Eyre is ultimately the tale of one woman’s fight to claim her independence and self-respect in a society that has no place for her.”

My Rating: 5/5

My Review: I had to read this book as an assignment and I must say I absolutely adore it.  I do not usually like popular classic literature, for some reason.  Oh, I might read it and stuff, but I don’t ENJOY it.  Well, I more than ENJOYED Jane Eyre, she is one of my favorite heroines of all time.  Her story just GRABS you and doesn’t let go.

There is something to be said about your true love dressing up in drag like a gypsy for you that is so amusing and appealing at the same time.

I do not want to give too much away, since this book has SO much subtext and dark plots … but it is definitely worth a buy.

  1. See if you can get hold of an old BBC adaptation starring Timothy Dalton and Zelah Clarke. The closest and best adaptation by far and much recommended, even though the two leads are far too good looking.

  2. I just watched the BBC adaption from 2006 or 2007 with Ruth Wilson and Toby Stephens. I must say I liked the chemistry, but I have yet to find a visual adaption that actually has him lose an eye and his hand.

He always has both hands and eventually regains his sight. Although, with this one, he actually stayed blind and had some visual scaring. Not the same thing though, in my opinion.

I’ll definitely give it a try though. Thanks. :]
